Bags for Water
About the Cause
The Mahalar Aran Trust at Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu offers counselling, housing, job training and support for women in need (abused, divorced, abandoned, widowed). After a period of skills training, www.viadesign.org employs some of the women to make a range of textile based products. The trust also runs a farm where they grow food, keep cows for the milk (and dung, which produces biogas!) and hundreds of chickens.Part of the revenues from the bags sold will benefit the people who live here. The other part will go to providing water at street level for the project below.

Water for Asrada, Dheemanpalli, Gathampakala:
With the help of VJNNS, we visited 3 villages in the Eastern Ghats, India. This NGO works to improve the lives of the very poor – health, education, water and sanitation.
It was fascinating to spend time with the villagers in the mountains. Some spent as much as 6 hours a day fetching water (women and their young daughters).
The aim of our fund-raising effort is to make water available in the village itself.
